How is Byzantine Chant different from Western Liturgical Music?

We focused in this lesson on Ti Ipermaho, Ode 1 of the canon. Ti Ipermaho is the opening phrase of the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos. What it means (in English): “To you, the Champion Leader…”

What it refers to: It’s the first kontakion of the Akathist, a beloved Orthodox hymn of thanksgiving and praise to the Panagia (Theotokos), traditionally chanted during Great Lent—especially on the Fridays of the Salutations.
